What makes Toledo Golden
Pueblo Hinulawan, or most commonly known by it's present name, Toledo; it is located on the central west coast of the elongated island province of Cebu. Toledo was originally known as "Hinulawan" which derives its names from the Hinulawan River running across the municipality. It was renamed Toledo, during its establishment as a new town -borrowing the name from a province of Spain.
Toledo developed a few changes during the first 40 years of its independent existence as a municipality. Real growth and changes came into Toledo in the 1950's after Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development corporation (ACMDC) or Carmen Copper Corporation (it's present name), one of the biggest copper mines in the world, started the development of a large porphyry copper ore in Barrio Don Andres Soriano. On June 19, 1960, Toledo attained the status of a chartered city.
Toledo is classified as a second class city. Although not very much as progressive as Cebu's other cities, it is unique -- and is therefore strategically located--in that it is the only city in the province which is on the western seaboard (Danao, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Talisay being on the east), facing Negros Oriental.
Toledo City is politically subdivided into 38 barangays.

Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation (Atlas). CCC has an operating agreement with Atlas and it has exclusive operating rights over the in site mineral resources and ore reserves of Carmen, Lutopan and Biga mineral deposits, collectively known as Toledo Copper Mine Complex covering 1, 674 hectares.
Situated in the mountains of Barangay General Climaco (formerly Malubog), it is an artificial lake made by damming Malubog Creek in the 1970s to provide fresh water source for the mining operations of then Atlas Mining—and still is today and for the rest of Toledo as well. It is claimed to be one the largest fresh water privately-owned lakes in the Philippines, and may just become Cebu’s answer to Lake Maggiore. It can be seen as far as the Trans-Central Highway in Cebu City.

Hinulawan Festival
If you want to visit Toledo, the month of June is a perfect time. With the summer weather, the City is usually buzzing with activities for the upcoming fiesta which is culminated every June 12, with San Juan de Sahagun as their patron saint. Historically, Hinulawan was the original settlement located in daanglungsod of the early Toledanos. Hinulawan comes from the word “Hinaguang Bulawan”, which literally translates to "hard-earned gold".
